Net Worth

How does Finance AI calculate net worth?

Understand what is included in net worth, account balances, manual stocks, and mortgages.

Updated June 28, 20265 steps

Quick answer

Finance AI adds assets such as bank balances, investments, manual equity, and home equity, then subtracts liabilities such as credit cards, loans, and mortgages.

Steps

  1. 1Open the Net Worth tab.
  2. 2Review connected bank, credit, loan, and investment accounts.
  3. 3Add mortgages, private company stock, or options only when Plaid cannot sync them automatically.
  4. 4Refresh accounts if you recently connected a new institution.
  5. 5Use the time range selector to view net worth history.

Connected accounts

Plaid-connected checking, savings, credit card, loan, and investment accounts feed balances into the net worth summary. The exact data available depends on what your institution supports through Plaid.

In Connected Accounts, each institution appears as a tappable row with a chevron. Open it to see the accounts under that connection.

Use Manage connection from the institution detail screen to refresh permissions or account selection. Use Delete institution only when you want to disconnect it and remove all of its accounts, synced transactions, and categorization history.

Manual holdings

You can add manual stocks, private company equity, options, and mortgages for assets that are not available through Plaid. If a stock or option position is held in a brokerage account that Plaid supports, connect the brokerage account instead.

Manual holdings are not synced automatically, so you need to update their share count, price, strike price, or loan details yourself when they change.

  • A mortgage entry can track home value and loan balance.
  • A manual stock entry can track shares, price per share, strike price, and exercise status.
  • Deleting a manual holding removes it from your net worth history going forward.
